Group Walk around Library with Medium
Lending Library

As soon as Christina walked in she kept hearing the song ‘Take Me Home Again Kathleen’
She felt that this lady worked at the library and she kept saying ‘sshhh be quiet’.
She felt she was short and around the age 60-70 years old.
Christina could feel a strange feeling at the back of her head and heard ‘what are you doing here this is my library’
She got the name JOHN – possibly a Doctor.
Christina also felt that the library shelves were once taller and had ladders on them.
She says someone has heard and seen her (referring to Kathleen ?)
She also felt there had been disruption at the library by the Army.
Aileen felt that Kathleen would have worn a blue and grey coloured dress and may have had a heart problem
The name Gerry or Gerard was given.
Christina said ‘she kept having headaches’ Christina’s head was flicked.
Val had a pain in her head.
Christina also felt that Kathleen was a hermit and that work was her life, she felt she loved children and would have had dealing with a Sunday School held at the library.
Then Christina said a man had joined us who suffered great sadness. He was here before Kathleen.
She has a pain – it really hurts – burning down right side of face – man in mask
(Aileen cannot open eye)

Gallery
Christina felt that the gallery had not always been there.
She has a memory link to someone sorting everything out – John (Aileen – Frank)
Kathleen is saying ‘this is not a side show’ and she is disappointed
Christina gets the name Margaret and is given the word Psychology by Kathleen
She links with a man keeping a log of the books – George
There is also a little boy running around, maybe an errand boy – Samuel/Sammy

Office
Christina senses that a man hides in the office that people have
got him wrong, it is his own fear which is being seen.
Kathleen is frightened of him because of the way he looks
Christina’s throat is affected and she can taste blood in her mouth. She says something has happened here which has not been noted, someone has fallen into a liquid, she can taste iron.
(the Library was built on a former Tin Works and this may be residual energy related to this)

Staff Room
Christina senses that a man stands watching from the window and the year 1850 is given.
Rachel has a pain in the back of her head
.

Upper Bookstore
Group 1
As the group entered the Upper Book Store the door began to close on its own
Something touched Val’s arm – cobweb effect
Sharon heard a tap on the door and Val saw a shadow under the door.
Val keeps getting a headache
Sharon was prodded in the side
Shelia starts to shiver
The group see's small lights flickering
Michelle and Kelly hear a bang in the bookstore, they investigate but nothing is found
Chris and Kelly hear a girl laughing as they exit the book store, they go and investigate but nothing was found.

Group 2
Lower Book Store – the group sensed a man called Gory/Gary was present also the name Cyril came through.
Surname Good was picked up
It was felt that Kathleen was very sad and that she had lost someone and was dedicating her life to the library. Something happened in March? She loved poetry and wrote sad poems.
The smell of paraffin and candle wax was picked up
Sensed there was a man in a fire but he did not die and was shunned by other until he took his life
(4 score years he said)

Group 3
The group started calling out with no response
Ginette felt someone touch the back of her head.
The group called out, but with no response, so decided to end the vigil early and went down to the main library.

Main Library
Group 1
Glass Divination – Christina felt the presence of 2 children, Emily 3 and another child aged 5. Picked up on the named Maureen/Margaret and a child called Todd. There was also a girl call charlotte and a boy called Tom.
The glass move when asked if a male spirit was present, the glass moved towards Tina. There seemed to be various messages for Tina come through on the glass.
The glass moves to Sheila and she receives a personal message.
A man called John who was connected to the library comes through also a chambermaid called Maryanne.

Group Two
Aileen felt the present of somebody who was not related to the library. The glass began moving and went towards Don and a message came through for him
It appeared that spirit was playing games. Then Aileen confirmed that spirit was Don’s aunt and she gave a message through Aileen.
The group tried to do some table tipping, all that was felt was slight vibration.
The main lights in the library came on, so one of the library attendants went to check it out, they said there would be no reason for them to come on.
Second time the glass divination was done, someone connected to the library came through and we think it was the man that hides away because of his face. We asked if he wanted us to leave and he indicated ‘yes’ so out of respect we ended the session.

Group 3
The glass was moving very fast during glass divination, a name of Gorey came through possibly the manager/foreman of the library when it was being built. The team felt he had fallen off the roof and died before the library was completed. He was married and lived in London and has 3 grandchildren.
The team witnessed the room going very dark all of a sudden and a drop in temperature. 3 of the team also saw some light flashes. (No explanation can be found for this) 2 members saw a shadow in the corner.
A child called Owen came through who used to be taught at the library and he likes to come here to play.

Office/Staff Room
Team 1
When 1 of the team walked into the staff room a pen lid which was on the table fell in front of her.
The team experimented with the Planchette and the initial C was drawn.
The Planchette moved when the team asked for various shape to be drawn. Spirit responded well to a male voice. There were various numbers drawn on request and the team established the spirit was that of a young girl aged about 6 and she gave C as her first initial, and U and the first initial of her surname, then she spelt out the other letters of her first name O, L, L, E, the group asked if her name was COLLEEN and the Planchette moved towards the lights as a sign of yes. Then the surname UPLAND
was spelt out. The group was told the young girl had dark hair and brown eyes. She said she had 2 siblings and confirmed she was linked to the library and lived nearby and the group established that she had died of peritonitis (inflammation of the membranes of the abdominal cavity). Her father was a soldier in WW2. She was born on April 10th. She confirmed her father returned from the war.

When asked when she died no reply came, but a giraffe was drawn on the paper by 1 female member, and the member confirmed that this was her favourite animal.
Spirit confirmed she was linked to this female member and was her spirit guardian, the spirit said goodbye.
Team 2
The team decided to leave the Office/Staff Room after a short vigil as there was no activity
Team 3
The team encountered various tapping noises and some temperature changes.
A number of names were given to Christina
(unfortunately none can be verified)
Christina kept feeling her jumper being tugged
Links were coming through to do with a smallpox cemetery and children being marched up East Hill
The dates 1916, 1936 and 1950 seemed relevant and the name Edward
(Edward was the name of the first librarian who started and the library when it opened in 1916)
The word Doctor or DR came through along with somebody talking about opening or financing something.
(Christina had previously received Doctor and the name John on the earlier walk around) (There is a tentative link to Dr John Latima and the museum. He was the discoverer of the Dartford Warbler and he had his own private museum collection based in Dartford – he may have visited the Library when it housed the museum - however we are unable to verify a link to the library)
1936 – the Central library was extended in 1937 and the museum moved to its present position.

I think we all enjoyed our time at the library even though no real paranormal activity was experienced.

As with all investigations it is very difficult to verify names that have been given when there are no surnames to go on. A small amount of the information given can be verified by historical references which are easily obtainable via the internet and where possible this has been done.

We will be doing a re-vist here in 2008.
