We Started our walk from our meeting place on the lower gun floor, as we started to walk down the tunnels, Christina felt like this was ‘the walk of death’. She felt German and French prisoners would have been marched shackled around the neck and legs. She and Russell also felt extremely cold. As we walked a little further, we came to the ‘Alter’ here Christina sensed a lot of lives lost. (we were advised this area was where there was a ‘cave in’ and a number of lives were lost – unverified)

Dean Hole (Deep Shaft)
Here Christina felt she was changed to the wall, she sensed children and a lot of death. She kept repeating ‘why did you let me die here?’ Russell also sensed something to do with fire here. (our tour guides advised that there used to be stables above here as it was a ventilation shaft and a number of horses had fallen into the tunnel after a collapse. They also said a man and son died in the same incident. The man strangled after being caught up in some chains) this event has not been verified) As we were walking further down the tunnel Christina still kept saying about water, at which point a well was pointed out to her. She felt that a man had committed suicide in this well. (the well has not be fully excavated as yet due the deepness of it and specialist divers are required) Russell sensed that when the divers do go down it will not be a pleasant experience and that they should prepare themselves. Russell sensed Jamaican prisoners wearing wooden yokes around their necks. Ginette felt her hair and for some reason it was damp and sticky????? (this had happened also on a previous investigation here to Ginette)

Control Room
There was a lot of residual energy in this room (memories from the past) Christina sensed that flowers had been left in remembrance. The name Elsie or Ellie was picked up. (Ellie verified by guide) Christina picked up on the initials W R then got a name Ellis. (Unverified)
When we went around to the hospital room Linda felt her hair being touched. No one was near her We went back up the tunnels to the Ammunition Shaft where Christina sensed ‘little ones had died – beaten’ The name Mary was also picked up on. Russell sensed that Naval sailors ‘had been put down here’. Neil picked up on an image of a Napoleonic soldier wearing a red tunic with a rifle with a bayonet on it – he wanted to shout ‘Viva La France’ Matt could smell wet cork in this area.

Upper Gun Floor

Russell sensed that there would have been a lot of drinking and working happening here. Christina picked up on the name Samuel Pierce/Price near the stairs leading upwards. She also felt that someone had fallen down the shaft of the stairs. She also sensed a well spoken French officer with connection to slaves. The presence of a soldier pacing up and down was felt ‘the watcher’ possibly with the name Marcus.(it has been reported that a soldier still paces the stairway, his job was not to let anyone get past – various names have been given for him, including James and Daniel) she also felt the presence of a young girl who had died in a fire, Christina had a choking sensation. (guides have spoken of a young girl called Francis who had died in a fire, on other occasions) Chris felt he wanted to skip around and felt sad when he had to leave the room.
Russell felt there was a nasty person around – a crazy person – and that the glass for the oujia board would get broken by him. The name Mary was picked up on again. Christina could hear a man shouting ‘WHY ARE YOU WOMEN HERE?’ She also felt she wanted a connection with George Formby (there was a theatre in Chatham where he used to perform – he may have visited the fort at some time)

Group Vigils – Alter
Team 1
Russell got the impression of despair and prisoners digging – also the feeling of brutality. He felt there would have been coloured people at the Fort.

Russell used the dowsing rods and they kept moving to his right. Then a noise was heard. Linda went to investigate, but could find nothing, then a 5p coin was found on the floor where the dowsing rods were pointing. The Team placed the coin on a cup and asked spirit to knock the coin off. Nothing happened. There was a feeling of sadness here and Russell got the name Francois he also had a vision of two owls on top of each other, no reason for this. The whole area became extremely cold and the team did not know if they could stay there any longer. Ginette saw a red mist up near the doors (also has photo of this) During the whole vigil nothing significant really happened so the team went to the gun floor for warmth. Nothing happened

Team 2
Chris experienced a pain under his arm, which was lifted on his request he also experienced chest pains.
Faint talking could be heard – Male voices it is possible the voices were of some local scouts taking down their tents outside the fort.
Chris felt there was someone behind him touching his hair.
Christina felt someone was looking at them and would meet them upstairs. The words Max, Barnet, North and Corporal came through. Christina could hear children laughing and someone’s hair was pulled.
The team tried to contact team 1 via the walkie talkies but they would no work, so Chris came down to the control room looking rather shaken as he said he had been followed.
Christina felt that François initials were on the wall – the team could not find them
Taylor surname with South African connections – unverified
The feeling of a woman and child died here – doesn’t like the man, she plays hide and seek (Francis/Fran) Christina had visions of a Mother in a long skirt and apron, and that the mother and daughter died there cuddling up for protection. Christina also experienced her throat closing up.
Christina saw an image of two swords crossed with a heart in the middle.
The words ‘not a women’s army’ were given to Christina and she saw an old man with a lantern c1931. Chris experienced chest pains and was freezing.

There are stories of a mother and daughter dying together in a fire. The mothers name is Elizabeth and the daughter is Francis. We are unable to verify if this information is true or not and only have what the tours guides have said to go on.

UPPER GUN FLOOR – BOTH TEAMS
We started off with a Oujia board, no specific information was coming through, however the glass did keep tipping over. A female spirit answered yes to ‘are you alone’ and Russell reports that his elbow was touched.
Ginette got the name Rachel and Russell got the name Mary. Russell said the temperature has dropped but the room feels warm. Russell also says his hand is freezing however the temperature was showing 33degrees which is extremely hot for a hand.

The initial A Y was given and when asked if the name was Angela the glass moved to Yes, and we asked if she was a child. Christina felt this was someone playing games with us. K5 was spelt. Russell started challenging the spirit and an audible YES was heard by the group. Ginette starts to feel extremely cold and was physically shaking. Christina changes places with Ginette.

Ginette and Neil leave the group after hearing voices in the lower gun room and they go to investigate. No apparent cause found

The glass tilts over and starts rocking and the letters ST TS R Q 8 are given then the glass tips over. The teams then separate and do vigils on the stairway.

Team 2 report hearing a noise like someone being sick.

Team 1 – Russell feels like he wants to be pushed off of stairs and sensing that a monk may have been at the fort. Some of the team thought they could hear the chairs moving in the gun room.

The teams swap over, but nothing really happened.

Control Room/Hospital Room
Team 1
There was some movement on the Planchette although nothing recognisable written.
The team tried table tipping, but nothing happened.
The team went into the hospital room where Russell picked up on the names David, Jack and Daniel Pearson, he also felt the presence of a dog run past.
The team went back into the Control room and moved the Planchette to the large round table, where they seemed to make contact with a dog. It was during this that Chris entered the room as Team 2 had been trying to contact us.
We eventually gave up and went back to the lower gun floor.

Team 2
The team did work on the Planchette and received what looked like the word ‘Dawn’ and that she died there in a cave in with her husband, daughter and sons,
The initial E – Elizabeth? Daughter F?
Christina sensed the man from the alter was there –MAX?- and he did not like Christina. The names Arthur and Roger came through and the presence of a dog was felt. The team also heard a noise come from outside. Christina asked for the candle to be blown out and on demand each time the candle dimmed and on a couple of occasions nearly went out, When they stopped asking the candle flickered as normal.

All in all I we had a good investigation and hope that our new comers enjoyed themselves.

Unfortunately as with all investigations it is very hard to verify the information picked up and I have tried to find things on the internet that may have reference to the cave ins, but alas could find nothing. It is also very difficult trying to find people without surnames and a time period, we will have to hope that spirit will be more forthcoming in the future.
